A purpose built residential and retirement home in the Cotswolds has been finished with a range of bespoke architectural dressings from UKCSA member Bradstone. Cast stone was selected as a cost-effective counterpart to natural stone by Bicester architects Banks Design.
Striking archways pick up on stone arch details from nearby stable buildings at Shipton Court, one of the finest Elizabethan manors in the country. The fine-jointed cast stone elements, including decorative keystones, were first dry-bedded onto dummy support frames, then tied together using an in-situ concrete internal beam which also provides structural integrity across the opening.
As well as the imposing double-aspect archway and a second archway integral to the courtyard façade, the cast stone dressings include a grand portico of Tuscan columns with entablature, window surrounds, plinths and quoins.
Bradstone also supplied the wet cast walling and roof tiles. The 60-bedroom care home was constructed by Weaver plc for Walstead Place Residential Home Ltd.
