South Lodge Hotel, Sussex (2007)

Cast stone used for neo-Jacobean hotel extensions

Cast stone ashlar masonry and architectural dressings from UKCSA member Bradstone have been used to create two large extensions at the South Lodge Hotel near Horsham, Sussex.

Peter Smart Architects wanted the extensions to blend seamlessly with the original country house dating back to the 1880s. An authentic and cost-effective alternative to carved natural stone was required.

Bradstone provided the solution with bespoke ashlar units for the external walls, detailed with cast stone window surrounds, door surrounds and corbels to match the original Victorian stonework. The cast stone was produced at a fraction of the cost of worked natural stone and within far shorter lead times.
